Providence Bay, Manitoulin Island
Manitoulin Island is the world’s biggest freshwater lake island. And, it has the world’s largest lake on a freshwater island, Lake Manitou… Oh, and Treasure Island on Lake Mindemoya is the world’s largest island in a lake on an island in a lake — what a mouthful! But there are plenty of reasons to visit Manitoulin Island besides world records (winky face).
The Island, as it’s known to Ontarians, is famed for its great salmon fishing, good agriculture and quaint local markets, scenic beauty, and plentiful walking, hiking, and biking opportunities. The journey to Manitoulin Island from Southern Ontario is a tourist attraction in and of itself as the ferry ride from Tobermory to South Baymouth on the Chi-Cheemaun provides excellent views of Georgian Bay.
